New post over at Keyring about my friend's amazing giant arts facility in Berkeley that is being shut down after nearly 10 years...where they hosted Survival Research Laboratories and built many huge insanely wonderful projects. The reason is that their 27 shipping containers are not permitted or certifiable by the building code -- which caused me to look up some of the many people, both architects and laypeople, who are already using shipping containers as the ultimate prefab building material.

The Shipyard are some the people who keep me going back to Burning Man. Click through and check out their 3-story steam-powered Victorian mansion-mobile. One of the first years I was out at Burning Man, they brought an enormous ball of ice with clocks embedded inside, which slowly melted throughout the week. They are always ambitious -- right now they are working on a truck that runs on coffee grounds. It works!

The City of Berkeley is holding an emergency meeting on Monday the 21st to decide the Shipyard's fate.
