I'm trying to book a holiday flight for my boss on Orbitz -- it's a total nightmare. One second the flight's $350, and then the page blanks out. When it comes back, it's $500! It's a subtle torture device, dangling semi-affordable fares before you, and then whisking them away. Who designed this thing, the Spanish Inquisition?

Thank goodness I'm a genius and booked mine weeks ago.

***Now it's $950 for the same flight and I'm still on hold.

expedia did that for our trip to barcelona. one minute it was $1200, the next $1800. we called and they were like, that's just the way it works. sorry.

If your boss can fly at any time, go to hotwired. It's *much* cheaper. Also, Travelocity doesn't do that bullshit that Orbitz pulls.

I had the same issue with Expedia. I don't know if it's true, but someone told me that the more hits a flight gets will increase its price. Either way, I discovered that once it's gone on the page, it's gone for good. I tried calling when it said that he page was temporarily unavailable and it turned out that all the customer service reps do is to use the same internet on their end of the phone, just like you would. When I was booking a trip on short notice back in February, I literally spent a full 24 hours working on it and ultimately had to buy two seperate tickets and fly two different days to make it to my destination. Frustrating much.

They all do it. It's so maddening. It's not even just the prices changing.. you can get it to REPEAT the price changes, at specific steps of the way.. Evil Evil Evil..
