I can't stop looking at nonuglies even though 98% of the time it's lame 14-year-olds whose user icons say things like "Hurt Me" and "Luke is My World" posting really sad photos of themselves making blow-job faces for the webcam in the den in their parents' house/their dorm.

Oh God.

And the rest of the time it's the terrible "stamped" people being like "Today I purchased a new shirt! Here is a picture" and everyone else being like "You are so hot!"

What I've gleaned so far is that a lot of people's eyebrows are either too fat or too thin.

Also as I discussed with jenslinky, it's weird because it's the opposite of the rest of livejournal, where you don't usually know what people look like really and you judge them based on their personality.

It is,without a doubt, the most insipid, vomit inducking thing I've ever seen. If the posters are ANYTHING in real life like they are on lj, they probably can't make it through a single day without getting the shit slapped out of them.

I spoke about this briefly with Phibes, but you wouldn't happen to know a reall "hot" person with like, half their face burned off or something, would you? I wish I could find someone like that, have them submit pictures in profile (the good side), get stamped, and then have them flash the bad side so everybody would be like ooooooooh.

Having been addicted to nonuglies in the past, I know that they won't vote on someone if the only pictures they submit are in profile. More or less for the reason behind Phibes' idea.

Okay then, how about someone with no legs? Or my original idea which was to fake up a user, get stamped, and then have an "accident."

Get them cooing about how hot "I" am for a few months, then say, get burned up like, go into a suicidal depression, and have them turn their backs on me when I am ugly.

Man that would be an awesome mind fuck, but it would take like, a year. And who has the time?

It's funny...after I said that i started seeing all these posts blowing holes in my theories...

AND, this is wierd...it seems like once you're in, you have free reign to be hideous...it's just getting in that matters. The "members" are constantly posting mad unflattering pictures of themselves, but since they passed the hazing, it's like thier divine privilege. One of the old-skool members posted this terrible picture of herself and wrote "Throw me out for being ugly" and more or less got told "You're one of us, so you're hot even if you look like ass."

I'm not sure if a new member could get away with this, but it seems that once you're in, you're in.

I agree. I go in and look from time to time because it's like a train-wreck: it's horrifying, but I can't look away.

I just can't believe that people are so sad and shallow and insecure that they put such great weight on ruling over some little idiot online universe where they can judge others. The cliqueishness is offensive and more than a little pathetic.

The only thing worse, I suppose, is those poor, sad, shallow and insecure folks posting their pictures and begging for acceptance.

god i just made the mistake of looking and i wanted to cry; these people are so bloody pathetic. i read how they cut down this one girl; some dude was like "you are not very pretty; perhaps you should be a lesbian" or something and that was just so fucking pathetic. are teenagers really this bad? i remember not being that much of an asshole. well the internet will ruin adolescents! kids handing in papers written like IM's...

man i can't even make myself look at those communities anymore because all it does is fill me with brick-to-face-smashing rage and then i realize there isn't anything i can physically do about it and it's all an emotional waste of time. it really burns me to think that these kids walk around thinking they're awesome because of this, or vice versa, people's self-esteem in serious jeopardy over something on the internet. what ever happened to real life?

Man, I love that community. It's so fucking brilliant!

Basically, I don't think elitism based on looks is any more reprehensible than elitism based on any of the other lame things people are elitist based on. (I mean, how many of the people who hate non-uglies are gung-ho to dis people based on intelligence or interests or record collection, etc?)

But the real beauty is: Even if you think that an elitist group based on appearance is morally reprehensible, then people who are TRYING TO GET IN to an elitist group based on appearance are EQUALLY morally reprehensible and therefore fully deserving of the abuse they recieve! It's like a win/win situation! It's bad people being abused by bad people!

I agree, however, that it's sad that teenage girls with low self-esteem are using it as a tool to reinforce thier low self-image. That's just creepy.
