Apr. 30th, 2003 01:13 pmToday I mopped the floor and cleaned a window that has been too dirty to let light in. Our house is a very old factory/meat-packing building with about 10 years (at least) of accumulated dust and dirt. We sort of feebly try to clean things sometimes, but not owning a vacuum or any cleaning products limits us to swiping at things with a wet paper towel.
I want to do a big spring cleaning and host a couple things -- a Naked Lady Party and I'm in talks with Zeroboy about moving the slot car racing events here. I think our place is the perfect size for it.
This Saturday there's going to be a Rubulad party in Jersey City -- the first since December or so. I was trying to explain it to someone the other day -- what was it like? What made it so good?
You could tell it was a party put together by good people. Not slick or fancy, but handmade and loving. Ambitious -- often 15 performers and bands in a night! Sprawling through several rooms and a patio, you never knew what you'd find when you turned the corner: a puppet show, karaoke, Les Sans Culottes, the Hungry March Band...
I miss it a lot. I feel like a fogey mourning it (the neighborhood isn't the same, etc.) -- but it's not. It was (and is) from the heart.
I'm very interested to see what the new incarnation of it will be like. In fact, I'm working the door, so say hello.
