Yo. Today a lady who is in the bartending school brought her kid to the office and just left her there with me! Without asking!

The kid sits down at an empty desk and pulls out a Subway sandwich and some coloring and just makes herself at home!

I know that having a kid ain't easy, but you should at least ASK before leaving your kid with a stranger who is at their job working. And before your kid spreads her meal and stuff out over someone else's desk.

In other news, I am trying to figure out what I am naturally drawn to, a la Po Bronson's book What Should I Do With My Life? which I just read and is good. He says that sometimes your destiny is stalking you and you just don't see it there.

Snacks
Short Stories (reading not writing)
the South (porches, tea, etc.)
Doggies
Circuses/Variety Entertainment

From this I can glean that my ideal jobs might be:
Working at a historical society
Working at the Oxford American
Snack Menu Developer
Dog-Hugger/Pet-sitter

It could be lots of fun working at a museum or library or some such and doing things like educational project/tour days for kiddos.

I guess. I don't really like kiddos though. For adults, I would.

Doh. I was thinking kiddos in relation to snacks I suppose. But then, I guess adults like snacks too.

possible careers

what if you combined your interests into some gimicky career that is really simple and easy but novel enough that people pay lots of money for it?

for instance, you could have a loft space that's a miniature circus/kennel and people could pay you lots of money to take care of their pets in a circus environment while they're out of town. and when they come back the pet would have learned circus skills.

Wow. Yes.

DID YOU SAY SNACKS?

You can have the position of "Snack Menu Developer" over at the SnackDaddy Snack Shop if you'd like.
There's a lot of (long-winded) short stories as well as circus/variety entertainment.
The propriorator is a gentle soul who pays high for low hours
with mornings, nights and weekends off.

Seriously, I added you to my friends list. Seriously.

If you don't add me back by Monday I'll remove you and no hard feelings.

Seriously.

porches, and tea and dogs. i always nurse this fantasy about moving back to my father's farm, with it's big wrap around porch with rockers and what not. and growing vegetables and having friends over for salad. then i remember that none of my friends are there and i would just be alone, on the porch rocking. with my salad.

I think you just articulated one of my all time fantasies, too. except mine includes michael stipe and tractors.

there are tractors at this farm.
but i can't help you with the stipe.
i kind of feel like it's awesome in
theory, not as awesome in practice.
it is so dark there at night too.
the darkest dark you've ever seen. scares me kind of.

I saw that Po dude on Oprah (!), and I think he's full of shit.

What do you actively like to do? Make clothes? Go thrifting? Turn that stuff into a job... Maybe you could be a personal shopper for someone or open up a store of your own with a couple Flux friends.

I want to open my own store SO BAD. The big cons are: 1) being married to it and 2)having to take out a giant loan.

Also I sort of don't trust what he says b/c from his book jacket photo he's too good-looking.

Ah, I'm dying to open up a store as well. I seriously considered it as an option to grad school, but alas, the loan thing scared me as well. But then, I'm taking out a loan for school. Hmmm...
