Like a big nerd, I picked up my roommate's old Psychology GRE study book and decided to take a sample test, just to see.

To my surprise, I scored a terrible 55% or so. I've forgotten mostly everything I learned at my very expensive college, where I majored in Psychology. In fact, the stuff I remember best is what I learned in high school psychology class. Also, apparently they never covered whole fields of psych which I am supposed to know for the test, but which I never had to take at college (perception stuff, Gestalt, humanistic therapy. Big areas.)

The good part is, that it's actually been fun taking the sample tests, even though I don't know lots of the answers. This is a big deal for me because all my life I have avoided learning just for learning's sake as much as possible, preferring to cram the bare minimum, showboat on the test and skate out with a B.

I think this might mean that I'm finally ready to start thinking about going to grad school. However, I still have no answers on what for. Psych is fun to learn about, but I don't like the research side. I think I might like to write about it.

Geez, reading that was like reading something I wrote myself. I didn't know you majored in psychology. I designed my own major, but I effectively had a psych major and did tons of research too. Like you, I love the stuff but say blah to the research. I like the people. So I'm getting my masters in human development and psych with emphasis in culture in development. But I'm kind of beginning to balk on getting the clinical phd I had once planned on. In fact, I'm pretty sure I'm not going to. But I'm trying to figure out what the hell it is I'm going to do instead. I'm thinking of just getting a job and simultaneously pursuing artistic endeavors while paying off masters loans while deciding. Sounds fun, right?

And btw, the psych gre blows dead gerbils. It's freaking hard, but nobody does exceptional on it from what I hear. Of course, my study regimen consisted of pulling an all-nighter and reading my entire study guide from cover to cover the night before the exam so who am I to talk?

I just feel a bit robbed b/c my fancy-schmancy college didn't require me to learn all the admittedly boring stuff I need to know for it. Also I think I threw out all my notes (d'oh.) So now I'm sort of starting from scratch or just relying on memory.

My roommate made a perfect score on it! It's a lot to live up to. She's an achiever. Keeps me motivated.

A perfect score! Oh my gosh. I think I just get by on good memory retention and good luck.
