labrujahThe other night I went to Hank's Saloon (my new favorite bar) to see Morning 40 Federation from New Orleans. Hearing them took me right back to a particularly tumultous phase of my past, where I was always discovering new strange places and people.
I remember hot nights in New Orleans wandering through decrepit neighborhoods and hearing raunchy, old-timey music floating on the air.
They sang lots of songs about always being drunk (or as Baudelaire put it: il faut toujours etre ivre), and being very dirty.
Also the last couple days I keep seeing really cute skinny redheaded girls. There is one girl who plays the fiddle for Uncle Fucker and other bluegrass bands who used to come into the cafe where I worked, who was at the show bouncing around, and one younger girl at the bartending school (in class), and there was another one on the train last night. You know what I mean, the cute freaky art-school girl, who has on green tights and Docs and a vintage dress, and is reading a Harry Potter book, and who you know is just so cool. And she grows up to be into plants and have a nice 50's kitchen table. And maybe makes hats or something. I have a big crush on those girls right now.

Date: 2003-07-09 11:12 am (UTC)i dont know the circumstances of your time in new orleans, but i spent some time in the mississippi delta, which always ends up my favorite daydream when i get tired of the crazy lawschool ratrace. juke joints in 120 degree heat. it's the best.
