Jul. 14th, 2003 12:40 amThe circus performers ran out and grasped the silver circles on the ends of the Wheel of Destiny, rigged up on the blacktop between a minigolf course and a derelict hotel. "Let's give a warm welcome to Hans and Gloria!," the ringmaster announced while turning up the music.
Magenta triangles stabbed across Gloria's cheeks -- she was leathery and her long black ponytail failed to conceal the thinning across her scalp. Her high-cut black briefs displayed a still-shapely butt, covered by white tights which ended in black high-tops. She smiled professionally and styled toward the Wheel of Destiny, eyes straight ahead. Hans, however, was young, with Princess Di-style pouffed blond hair and dressed in a tight shiny black bodysuit. Neon pink and orange strips of cloth, attached to his shoulder in a ragged bunch a la Menudo, trailed in the breeze as he swung himself onto the Wheel and started running like a hamster in a cage.
Black and Latino teenagers strolled the hot streets in tight tube tops and bandannad heads, past the bedsheets spraypainted with images of Tupac and the legend "True to the Game." The ocean breeze blew over tattooed girls with Betty Page bangs adjusting their halter tops, women balancing trays of mangos and hot sauce crossing the beach and babies running into the surf with no bottoms on.
