labrujahToday is oh so domestic here at Flux. We were supposed to get up at the ungodly hour of 9 a.m. to pose for a group photo for some Village magazine that is doing a feature on us. Hah! I set my alarm for 8:50 but when it went off I managed to convince myself that it was probably called off on account of rain, and if it were going on that a) there would be a lot more running and talking outside my door and b) my roommates would not forget to wake me up for it.
Here is a funny reverse-deja vu story: When I was in college I read the Times every day, and one Sunday there was a photo in the magazine of all these artist-types who lived in a loft in Brooklyn with little explanations of who they were and what they did and how they were related. It was great. I immediately emailed all my friends from high school, explaining that I had discovered what we were going to do just as soon as we all graduated -- move to Brooklyn and live in a loft together, just like these folks. We bandied the idea about for a year or so, then mostly forgot about it, as I went to live in Brooklyn in a loft on my own and they diddled around delivering pizzas and going to grad school all over the place.
Then I moved into Flux and they showed me their press kit and as soon as I saw the clipping, some sense-memory kicked in and I froze, realizing that unwittingly I had moved into the very house I had dreamed of emulating years ago. I suppose that's what destiny is all about.
Today we are making our new sink work! No more dishes in the bathroom! So fancy.
Also today new folks are moving in. Many of the French visitors that have plagued Flux with their charming, espresso-sipping ways have moved on. Last night I discovered that Queens is VERY VERY QUIET after midnight. No sirens, no drilling, no honking. It's like being in Ohio or something.
