just another Saturday night
May. 12th, 2002 01:44 amThis weekend I am very sick. Working the door at Rubulad, when drunk annoying men would hover around begging pathetically for a two-dollar discount, I figured if I coughed a lot in their direction they would move. But evidently they are not as germ-phobic as me.
On that subject, as veteran box office for Bombshell! Burlesque, the Bindlestiff Cirkus and other sundry interests, I have to ask: Why does everyone feel entitled to pay less than the admission price?
I mean, it's okay to ask one time nicely if you can get a discount. That is very forgivable. But last night was just a nightmare of yahoos in fancy leather jackets with trendy haircuts pleading drunkenly. What encourages people to behave like that? It was actually difficult to enjoy the party because I kept looking at people and thinking "That guy gave me a hard time about paying $8 to get into this party which employs about 6 bands, 4 other entertainers, bartenders, door people, security etc. and which runs until broad daylight. $8 is what one drink costs in Manhattan. You can't even get in to see the Scorpion King for $8, but you can get in here."
