This weekend I am very sick. Working the door at Rubulad, when drunk annoying men would hover around begging pathetically for a two-dollar discount, I figured if I coughed a lot in their direction they would move. But evidently they are not as germ-phobic as me.

On that subject, as veteran box office for Bombshell! Burlesque, the Bindlestiff Cirkus and other sundry interests, I have to ask: Why does everyone feel entitled to pay less than the admission price?

I mean, it's okay to ask one time nicely if you can get a discount. That is very forgivable. But last night was just a nightmare of yahoos in fancy leather jackets with trendy haircuts pleading drunkenly. What encourages people to behave like that? It was actually difficult to enjoy the party because I kept looking at people and thinking "That guy gave me a hard time about paying $8 to get into this party which employs about 6 bands, 4 other entertainers, bartenders, door people, security etc. and which runs until broad daylight. $8 is what one drink costs in Manhattan. You can't even get in to see the Scorpion King for $8, but you can get in here."

i've noticed that people tend to take excessive pride in not paying the full price at parties, clubs, etc.
if you're cool, you don't have to pay. a strange and annoying status symbol.

here come my head-ache and sore throat.
but i think i definitely did it to myself.

!!! i know !!!

i have this friend that asks me, "did you pay to get in??"

fucking retard.

i can understand broke folks that ask for a discount on a low price, but NOT people that are financially stable. the friend i mentioned is currently making $50 an hour when he does work, and his girl has 60k job. wtf??

Yeah. What are they trying to prove? That they deserve to be at the party more than anyone else?

The other incident: a friend of a friend gave a waitress a hard time about the price of side dishes -- "Two dollars for a bowl of rice? I could get a ten pound bag for that." And she goes "Listen, you're in New York City," and storms off. And I was like "Hey, she didn't write the menu. Lay off already." I hate it when people act bitchy just because they can.
