Jan. 13th, 2003 06:01 pmAn excerpt from an email about an art show written by my friend Ryan. I wish all art criticism was like this:
My Artfag Cliffnotes below explaining some of the things that are going on in Tom Sachs Nutsy's exhibit.
Nutsy's includes a homemade racetrack that snakes around giant foamcore models of the 1)Unité d’Habitation, 2)a Barcelona chair, a McDonald’s food cart, a ghetto, a pissoir, a 10,000 watt boombox and something called "a bong-hit station."
Loosely organized Tuesday night parties include music, food, drinks, and driving on the course. BYOB encouraged. Also, the space is the new building built out by the Lo-Tek architecture firm.

Artfag Cliffnotes
(1) Unite d'Habitation by Corbusier
http://www.greatbuildings.com/buildings/Unite_d_Habitation.html
Corbusier cemented his supercat architect status when he said
something along the lines of the following, "What the fuck
is up with architects? Why are they so stuck in the past?
Crap, have you checked out planes lately? They make
those amazing looking jetplanes and architects continue
to make crappy ass buildings year after year."
Its all in his book "Towards a New Architecture"

take a look at this too http://students.bath.ac.uk/ab1aab/tana.html
(2) Barcelona chair - was made by super mack Daddy
architect Mies van der Rohe. Basically they were having the
worlds fair in Barcelona in 1929 - he designed the
Kraut pavilion along with his famous Barcelona chair. You will
def recongize it when you hit the link. In the pavilion there were
only two chairs one each for the king and queen of
Spain. SORRY serfs you'll have to stand. He is credited with
uttering the infamous phrase "less is more" which became the
essence of mid-20th-century architecture GO MINIMALISM!! yeeehaa!
He also built the Seagram building, and he
was the last Director of the Bauhaus school. Is that
enough for you!? Go ahead, get on your knees and say
out loud "Mies is the man, Mies is the man! I am only
a dull toothless Port-a-band sawblade."

(3) LoTek architecture
http://www.lot-ek.com/Monday/
These are the people that made the cement mixer into
an immersive video environment, and installed the tank
from an oil transport truck through the side of a
building as someone's new bedroom. They are way interesting
employing industrial detritus in their projects. Elliot
who has helped out on several Snackstar
projects actually works for Lotek. So next time you see
that dude in the shop instead of asking him for change
for the beer machine say "You Lotek fellas arrr awlright,
Can I buy you a tasty cold PBR."
